A taste of Italy in the hills of the Cape
17.03.2008
Hello!
Sorry for the delayed entry. I hope you are all well....and staying warm. It was warm the first couple of days I was here and then I think the Minnesota weather caught up with me. It has been rainy and chilly! Lets just say I am going shopping tomorrow for a sweatshirt.
Sandra and I returned from Cape Town yesterday. We are debating on getting lessons on sky diving....just in case if we have another experience like our last. Due to the weather we had to make a couple of attempts to land and it was quite the roller coaster ride….I think I wore off my nails from clutching them into the seat in front of me.
We had a GREAT time in Cape Town. I have never been to Beverly Hills or on the West Coast…but from the pictures I have seen, Cape Town resembles much of the same scene. Very ritzy and very beautiful, Sandra and I joke that we will be owning one of the homes on the hillside that costs a measly couple million
The ocean illuminated such shades of blue. I caught my self with my mouth wide open as we trekked out way down towards the beach. The instant my feet hit the powder soft sand my body went limp with relaxation. Although it was a breezy day, we enjoyed as much as we could through our contacts that had accumulated a small sand dune it’s self. We ate on the harbor at a specialty fish and chips joint…very tasty!
We stayed at a bed and breakfast in Stellenbosch. I couldn’t have imagined anything more perfect. The town in nestled inside a community of vineyards. From anywhere in town you can look to the horizon and see picturesque mountains topped with white fluffy clouds. I hope my pictures turn out so you all can see the magnificent view. We went for wine tasting at a couple of wineries. My favorite was also a South African favorite, JC Le Roux. They are known for their sparkling wines and Champaign. Very ritzy and elegant, I pretended to fit in with my gruzzy flip flops and tank top
I would highly recommend Stellenbosch if you are looking for small town comfort, African experience (safari and nature reserves), and sophistication of the prize winning vineyards.
This is all I have for now. This next week Sandra, her family, and I will be leaving for the game reserve. Hopefully we will have great weather so we can see and pet (…..okay maybe Rinos don’t like to be pet) all the native animals. I will hopefully write another blog after my first safari experience.
Have a great Easter if I don’t talk with you before then ![]()
